Lab for Cyber-Awareness, Cryptography and Hacking

Laboratory: Room 1.0.30

Teaching

Cyber awareness: Network security

Practical part of the lecture “Cryptography and Hacking”:

  • Vulnerability of the Vigenère code
  • RSA in detail
  • The windows hack: "Physical Access you lost the battle"
  • Password security: Cracking is no sorcery
  • Wireshark: Disclosing network communication using an “evil twin”.

Example: Cracking a password

Students rejoice after successfully cracking a password using a mask attack.
Mask attack to crack a password (within 19 minutes and 42 seconds)

High-frequency circuit engineering

Practical part of the lecture “High-speed data transmission”:

  • Example: Fully-automatic band-pass filter balancing of a universal DVB-T2 receiver.
Two students observe the fully-automatic band-pass filter balancing of a universal DVB-T2 receiver.
A fully automated algorithm optimises the filter curve and ensures studio quality

LabVIEW Academy

The Lab for Cyber-Awareness is the central institution for education of the LabVIEW Academy at the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt.

Here, in the scope of the lecture “LabVIEW for Engineers”, students may acquire the knowledge for the exam “CLAD - Certified LabVIEW Associated Developer”. The exam to receive this certificate, officially recognised by the industry and in cooperation with National Instruments, can also be completed at the lab at the end of each semester.

The lecture is closely oriented towards the curriculum of official trainings offered by National Instruments.

Focus topics of research and development

The focus of research and development currently lies on specialisation of competences in the area of cyber awareness:

  • Development of a network simulation for medium-sized enterprises
  • Configuration with different levels of security
  • Application-oriented exercises with various attack scenarios
  • Efficient methods of defence

Equipment

Among other equipment, the lab offers

  • FSV signal analyser 10 - 7 GHz
  • ZWOB 6 sweep tester 100 kHz - 2.7 GHz
  • Control and work centres for practical tests
  • LabVIEW periphery: MyRIO, ELVIS II, and more
  • Standard devices for network engineering, oscilloscopes, power supply units, Raspberry Pi, etc.
