Lab for PCB Technology

Our CNC drilling and milling machine. The control device is to the left, the drilling table takes most of the image space. In the front, there are drills of several diametres.
The various chemicals are distributed in 11 separate dipping tanks. The tanks are built next to another in a larger tank with the size of a bathtub.

PCB manufacturing

PCBs can be manufactured with one, two or even four layers up to a size of approx. 28 cm x 16 cm. They may receive solder resist or chemical tin as finishing. A CNC drilling and milling machine ensures precise positioning of holes and milling of contours.

We need PCBs regularly for:

  • project work of the BET course during the 5th and 6th semester
  • bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral theses
  • other labs, also for other faculties
  • Try-Out-Days for girls
  • “Mainfranken Racing”

circuit board assembly

Depending on the size of the boards to be assembled, it is either done manually or via the automatic placement machine.

  • Wired components and larger SMDs can easily be soldered manually.
  • For small and very small and/or four-pole components, an automatic SMD dispenser/placement machine is available.
  • The soldering is done in a vapour phase soldering system

Equipment

A PCB rests on the aluminium rack of a vapour phase soldering system. The rack is submerged into the vapour below for soldering.
Two men in front of the automatic placement machine. In front of the machine, there are also component feeds. There are two monitors to the left. One shows the layout, the other one shows the placement positions.

Among other equipment, the lab offers

  • a CNC drilling and milling machine
  • a photo plotter and exposure unit
  • an electroplating system
  • laminators for solder resist and negative resists
  • a spraying facility for etching and developing
  • a multilayer press
  • a brushing machine
  • an automatic SMD dispenser/placement machine
  • a vapour phase soldering system
